Nameserver Lookup

Nameserver Checker

Find which nameservers and DNS provider a domain is currently using.

What are Nameservers?

Nameservers (NS) are the servers that store DNS records for a domain and respond to DNS queries. When someone visits your website, their browser contacts your nameservers to find out where to send the request. Nameservers are set at your domain registrar and typically come in pairs (primary and secondary) for redundancy.

Common DNS Providers

Some widely used nameserver / DNS providers include:

  • Cloudflare: ns1.cloudflare.com, ns2.cloudflare.com (widely used, fast global CDN)
  • AWS Route 53: ns-xxx.awsdns-xx.com (Amazon's managed DNS)
  • Google Cloud DNS: ns-cloud-xx.googledomains.com
  • GoDaddy: ns1.domaincontrol.com, ns2.domaincontrol.com
  • Namecheap / EasyWP: dns1.registrar-servers.com

How to Change Nameservers

To change your domain's nameservers, log into your domain registrar (where you purchased the domain) and update the NS records to your new DNS provider. DNS propagation after changing nameservers typically takes 24–48 hours to fully propagate worldwide, though it's often much faster.

Why Check Nameservers?

  • Verify DNS propagation after migrating to a new DNS provider
  • Confirm your domain is using your intended nameservers
  • Research which DNS services competitors are using
  • Troubleshoot email or DNS issues
